Balanced performance

UNICYCLIST Alistair Farr cracked a major challenge on Sunday by completing an egg-and-spoon ride from Endcliffe Park to Forge Dam Café, raising more than £1,000 to help people with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Alistair, whose brother has struggled with ME for the last 18 years, began his challenge with a fire-eating and juggling display, then rode the five-mile course with an entourage of umpires. He dropped the egg 24 times en route and the winning guess was awarded 50, donated by a friend.

Pupils' language day

SCHOOL children took part in a foreign language extravaganza to mark the European Day of Languages.

Primary pupils joined forces to put on a show of song, dance and drama at the Library Theatre in Tudor Square. Schools taking part included Porter Croft, Monteney, St Thomas of Canterbury, Lound Junior, Parson Cross, Oughtibridge, Walkley, Westways, Lowfield, Norton Free, Pipworth and Silverdale Language College which provided a group of Turkish dancers.

Winners by design

THE Dyson vacuum cleaner, the Volvo XC60 and Mira electric showers all have one thing in common – they were designed by graduates of Hallam University. Now an exhibition is being staged to showcase their work. Big Wide World will feature products, sketch work and prototypes of many high-profile designers. It is staged at the Furnival Building, Arundel Street, from tomorrow until Friday, October 23.

Musical farewell

SPANISH students visiting All Saints' High School will mark the end of their stay with an evening of Spanish music, dance and drama tomorrow night.

The 26 students all won a three-week educational and cultural visit to the UK and are staying with families from All Saints'. The Evento Musical, showcasing the talents of both hosts and visitors, will be attended by MEP Linda McAvan.
