Blackburn Meadows project grant
THE Echoes of Blackburn Meadows project, which is installing an audio art walk on the site of a former electricity power station near Meadowhall, has received a £10,000 grant to recruit 50 youth volunteers to carry out conservation work.
The Echoes teamed up with national conservation volunteer organisation BTCV to secure funding from GreenPrints, a scheme to help young people to improve green spaces in the community. The audio walk will look at the history of the former Blackburn Meadows power station.
Up to 50 volunteers aged 16 to 25 are being recruited for three months on tasks including hedge planting, footpath resurfacing and bench construction.
No experience is necessary, with BTCV providing tools, training and equipment. Contact senior project officer John Thompson at j.thompson@btcv.org.uk or 290 1255.
