Brothers go to prison for their TV debut
TWO young brothers from Mosborough will be watched by millions on TV tonight as the second series of the drama Prisoners’ Wives begins on BBC One.
But because of the adult content, Callum Lambert, aged nine, and Joshua, six, won’t be looking in themselves, although production company Tiger Aspect have made them both a video of their scenes so that they can see themselves on screen.
Prisoners’ Wives 2, filmed in and around Sheffield over a 10-week shoot at the end of last year, picks up the story from the first series of a group of women whose partners and husbands are serving time behind bars.
Callum and Joshua appear in all four episodes, playing two of the three young sons of new character Kim Haines, played by Sally Carman.
Kim’s seemingly perfect world is turned upside-down when her loving husband and the father of her three young boys (Enzo Cilenti) is accused of a heinous crime. Kim is convinced that the allegation is malicious, but as heis sent to prison on remand, no one will listen to her.
The brothers live in Mosborough with their parents after moving from Leicestershire a year ago and attend Ridgeway Primary School. They had never performed professionally before and had never even auditioned until put forward by Sheffield’s Fusion Casting, the agency affiliated to Fusion Youth Theatre where they attend weekly performing arts classes.
“It was really scary but really really fun,” recalls Joshua. “We couldn’t believe it”, adds Callum, talking about the moment he found out they had been cast, along with a boy from Nottinham, Jack Mitchell. “We were jumping up and down with excitement.”
Fusion co-director Heidi Riley says; “Working on the set of Prisoner’s Wives has given them the chance to further develop the skills that they learn in our classes. We wish them great success and cannot wait to watch them in action on screen.”
During filming they had a tutor and created show projects which involved talking to actors to discover more about their characters and quickly bonded with their screen parents, Sally Carman and Enzo Cilenti.
The first series of Prisoners’ Wives attracted an average audience of 5.5 million viewers in the UK and acquired a following overseas, Polly Walker as Francesca and Pippa Haywood as Harriet are back for the sequel again filmed at Sheffield locations. The cast and crew absolutely loved being in Sheffied, said Ian McCallum of Tiger Aspect. Sheffield is very much part of the DNA of Prisoners’ Wives, .
There was one significant change this time round. In the first series King Ecgbert School at Dore was used as the interior of the prison but this time round the shooting schedule coincided with school term. Instead a whole set was built inside an empty office block in the city.
