Calendar girl seizes the day as picnic guest of honour

ORIGINAL Calendar Girl Angela Knowles was guest of honour at a 'picnic in the park'.

The event was organised by the University of Sheffield in Weston Park to celebrate and thank people for the work they had put into the University.

Public and staff were entertained by street theatre acts such as escapologist Steve Faulkner and Professor Jon Marshall's Flea Circus as well as traditional fairground stalls such as hook a duck, coconut shy and tug-of-war competition.

Angela - formerly Baker, who was born in Stocksbridge and was one of the members of the Rylstone WI in North Yorkshire who raised more than 2 million for Leukaemia Research with their charity calendar - judged the 'best decorated cake' competition.

Top prize went to Lauren Troughton from the Research Finance Department at the University of Sheffield for her teddy bear's cake.

All money raised is being donated to The Children's Hospital Charity and Leukaemia Research.

Keith Burnett, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said: "The day was about celebrating the work and support that both our staff and the local community have contributed to the University.

"There is something for everyone at picnic in the park, and I'm sure everyone enjoyed the day."
