Chef Jamie's back as junk food row simmers on

ROTHERHAM is set to feature in a new TV series by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver about healthy eating.

The campaigning chef made a flying visit to the town for preliminary filming for the new series, due to go out in the autumn.

The top chef is expected to return for filming but it is not known whether he has any plans to meet Julie Critchlow and Sam Walker - the two mums who attracted worldwide interest when they were caught passing fast food through a fence to hungry pupils at Rawmarsh Comprehensive.

The two feisty mums said they had decided to take action after healthy dinners were introduced at the school, partly as a result of chef Jamie's campaign against junk food.

They branded the new menus 'low fat rubbish' and claimed kids preferred chips, burgers, pies and sandwiches.

Producer Danny Horan from the production company Fresh One Productions said: "Obviously one of the reasons Jamie wanted to come to Rotherham is because of the actions of those two mums.

"He got a lot of criticism at the time and he really wanted to visit the town because he believes he will be assured of honest opinions and straight-talking people."

But Mr Horan said he was not aware of any plans for Jamie to meet the two Rawmarsh mums.

The two women - branded the 'Sinner Ladies' by some national papers - have been reluctant to comment since but Julie said she knew nothing of the celebrity chef's plans to come to Rotherham.

A Rotherham Council spokesman said: "Jamie has done some preliminary filming in Rotherham.

"But there is still a lot of work to do because the series is not expected to go out until the autumn."
