Cinema finally goes digital
THE Odeon Sheffield has caught up with the rest of the cinemas in the nationwide chain and gone all digital.
The innovative Odeon Digital 8000 HD system was installed yesterday at the multiplex off Arundel Gate, marking the completion of a 23-month programme to install cutting-edge digital technology in all 890 screens at the company’s 113 sites in the UK and Ireland.
It merited a visit from Odeon and UCI Cinemas chiefs Rupert Gavin and Roger Harris, who joined Sheffield general manager David Hughes in welcoming the arrival of the final digital projector.
The company says the benefits of the system are improved picture and audio quality, sharpness, depth and realism, and also boosting the capacity and range of films that can be shown.

Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 12:49 PMI wonder if they've bothered to replace the actual screens as well. There is a dirty mark on the main screen and when you watch a 3D film you get big a floating stain. Time for a revamp I think.
