A city centre music venue that became a favourite of a world-famous band is throwing a final party this weekend before it moves to a new home.
Cubana, which has been spreading Latin American warmth in Trippet Lane for 14 years, is having a week of celebrations before the restaurant and bar moves to Leopold Square.
Artists and DJs, some of whom have been residents at the venue since it opened, will be saying an emotional ‘adios’ to the venue.
Cuban music superstars Buena Vista Social Club were the most famous band to appear at Cubana. They also headed to Cubana when they visited Sheffield for sell-out shows at the City Hall.
Cubana is preparing to reopen in the former Platillos on Friday, July 25.
Adrian Bagnoli, the venue’s co-owner, said: “The past 14 years at Trippet Lane have been fantastic and I have to thank all our customers for their support. But as our popularity has grown, the lack of space has increasingly become a problem.
“We’re determined to retain the qualities that have made the venue such a success over the years but having Cubana over two floors in Leopold Square will allow us to offer so much more for everyone.”
The celebrations include an appearance tonight by jazz and soul artist Emily West, DJ Antonio spinning top Latino sounds and dancefloor classics tomorrow night.
Saturday’s closing party is hosted by DJ Chris Welch, the night’s resident for the past 12 years.
