Diabetes care support plea

A TEN -year-old diabetes sufferer from Sheffield is to lobby MPs for better care for youngsters at school.

Imogen Francis is one of 30 children and young people travelling to a Diabetes UK lobby of Parliament tomorrow to push MPs to improve support for pupils at school.

The charity says support for diabetics at school varies greatly across the country and plays a vital role in keeping children healthy.

Imogen's family say she is one of the lucky ones as she is able to test her blood glucose levels whenever needed at school, which helps control her condition.

Dad Barry said: "Imogen was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was just six years old. She has been supported in a number of ways at school, including having a blood glucose testing kit which she can access whenever she wants."

Diabetes UK Northern and Yorkshire regional manger Linda Wood said: "It is appalling that children with diabetes are not getting the support they need to live a full school life."
