Doing battle for Weston Park Hospital
THE oven gloves are off for celebrity chefs James Martin and Brian Turner who are staging a ‘food fight’ in Sheffield to support of the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
The Yorkshire-born stars of Saturday Kitchen and Ready Steady Cook will battle it out over hot stoves at the Crucible Theatre on February 4, with BBC Look North’s Christa Ackroyd acting as referee.
The Food Fight has been organised by Kay Simons of Dronfield, who has raised around £250,000 for the charity over the last 20 years. Her husband Daniel died of cancer in 2010.
Kay, who enlisted the support of city restaurateur David Baldwin to secure the services of the two chefs, said: “We have been planning this event for about a year and it’s probably my most unique yet. There’s never been anything like this done before in the city, it’s a real one off.
“I love cooking and cookery shows and I’m an avid fan of Saturday Kitchen and I just thought it would be great to do something like that live.”
Brian Turner said: “When two Yorkshire lads come home to chat and cook you can be sure there will be fireworks and it’s all in the fight against cancer.”
James Martin added: “What better way for two chefs to get together than a food fight! It will be like old times on Ready Steady Cook, but this time in aid of a great cause.”
VIP packages are available from firstname.lastname@example.org, priced £150. Tickets only are £45 from the Crucible box office: (0114) 249 6000
