Family call for retrial of men jailed for murdering cabbie

RELATIVES of two Sheffield brothers convicted of murdering a city taxi driver have delivered a 700-name petition to the city's Crown Court demanding a retrial.

David and Ashley Cohen, who say they plan to appeal against their conviction, were jailed for a total of 64 years for the murder of father-of-five Younis Khan and told they must serve their entire sentences behind bars.

David's partner Lindsey Carr, the mother of his two children, delivered the petition to Sheffield Crown Court.

The petition said: "We the undersigned believe David and Ashley did not receive a fair and unbiased trial. We are petitioning the court service to have the verdict overturned and a retrial date set."

The brothers, who were never accused of pulling the trigger of the gun which shot Mr Khan, aged 53, of Abbeyfield Road, Pitsmoor, were convicted of murder for masterminding the killing.

David, 28, of Philadelphia Gardens, Upperthorpe, and Ashley, 25, of Clough Wood View, Oughtibridge, denied any involvement in the death.

They were convicted of planning the murder after Mr Khan's son Imran, 25, opened fire at David Cohen's house following a nightclub brawl with the Cohens' younger brother, Matthew.

An unknown gunman shot at Mr Khan's black cab six times as he drove along Scott Road, Pitsmoor, in March last year.
