Andy Simpson
Andy Simpson, aged 25, has been an optometrist with Martyn Kemp Opticians since qualifying three years ago.
He has a partner, Nina, and lives in Dore. He is a keen batsman and wicketkeeper for Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club's 1st X1 whom he represented in India during their first overseas tour last summer.
Are you a good cook?
If I am honest, my cooking skills aren't great. I've never really had to do much cooking, as my parents, grandma and partner have always been better than me. I can do the basics but that is about it - nothing fancy!
Any cooking tips?
The best advice is always on the back of the packet! It tells you how hot and for how long in the oven.
What's your favourite dish?
Probably due to my lack of personal cooking skills, I like simple food. A good steak or chicken is always nice with mash or chips and gravy. And, in the summer, you can never beat a good BBQ.
And a drink to go with it?
A nice pint of lager. As long as it's chilled, I don't mind which kind.
Your favourite restaurant in Sheffield?
For a burger, I like Uncle Sam's on Ecclesall Road. But, for a curry, I like The Mangla on Spital Hill. Nothing fancy, just how a curry should be.
And pub?
The Rising Sun in Abbey Lane near Parkhead. Always friendly, a good selection of beers, good atmosphere and nice food, if you feel a bit peckish.
What's the worst meal you have ever had?
On my recent trip to India to play cricket, we had some really good curries, but we tried a pizza one night and it just wasn't the same. Too much salt and not enough flavour.
And the best?
Not had one for a long time, but I had a gorgeous fillet steak at Napoleon's Casino a while back. It melted in my mouth and I could have eaten it again.
Your favourite TV cook?
At the minute, I think it is Gordon Ramsay. I know he swears and shouts maybe a bit too much, but he is straight to the point and he does stuff we can't all do.
What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat?
I'd say it's pretty good. There is a wide variety of different restaurants and bars within a close proximity so you never have to move too far if you change your mind or can't decide where to go.
