Book in for a coffee

IF you like to settle down with a good book and a cup of decent coffee, head for the Rude Shipyard.

The caf-come-bookshop opened this week in Abbeydale Road, offering a winsome combination of home-made food and quirky second-hand books.

The venture is the creation of Pete David and Sally Rowan-Smith, who have spent the last few weeks refurbishing the shop opposite Mount Pleasant Park.

Sally said: "We've only been open a few days but it's been busy. I think the sunny weather helps. We've had a great response from customers, especially to the hot food and the Guinness cake, but the books are proving a big attraction too."

The couple sell a range of books and customers can return them when they've finished, for a discount on the next purchase.

They also plan to put on a range of special events, including poetry readings, book clubs and live music.
