Chef Andy hopes for a hot bestseller
Cooking up ideas for fundraising can be difficult – but chef Andy Gabbitas and his wife Toni knew exactly where to start.
As proprietors of the Wortley Arms, the couple decided to utilise their culinary expertise and create a cook book, with 100% of the proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
They roped in broadcaster and comedian Toby Foster who, along with friends and suppliers, donated his time to the project free of charge.
Then they set about compiling more than 30 mouth-watering recipes – many of them regulars on the Wortley Arms menu, including Andy's hitherto secret recipe for the famous Wortley venison.
Finally, with the support of a local publishing company, the 48-page book went into production and is now available from the Wortley Arms, Mitchells Wines at Meadowhead and Crawshaws Butchers; minimum donation 5.
Andy, a Masterchef of Great Britain, spent seven years travelling the world and serving up fine cuisine to high-profile figures such as Margaret Thatcher, John Major and designers Dolce & Gabbana until settling in the village of Wortley.
After cancer touched his family, he and Toni decided to throw their energy into raising money for Marie Curie. The couple continue their campaign next month when they take on the challenge of running the London Marathon.
