Ramsay works his magic

THIS is what all the fuss was about!

Gordon Ramsay stormed into the Runaway Girl last week, bullied the team and the premises into shape, and left Sheffield's newest restaurant gleaming in his wake.

Silversmiths opened its doors on Friday with more than just a new name. There's no music at the Arundel Street venue any more, instead it's a contemporary restaurant serving 'modern Yorkshire' food in clean, fresh surroundings; the black and white theme softened by the green of indoor plants and buckets of herbs.

Owner Justin Rowntree said: "People said I was brave to let Ramsay in, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get advice from a world-leading expert; there's nothing brave about that."

He's contracted to secrecy over the outcome of the Kitchen Nightmares programme – and his relationship with the celebrity chef – but it sounds as though the show (to be screened on Channel 4 this winter) will have its share of fireworks.

Justin said: "There's no holds barred. He's got five days to turn a business around and you don't do that by pussy-footing around.

"But we've all come out winning and we're massively optimistic now. We've still got work to do, but it's a new business and a new opportunity."

Silversmiths is open from 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday; last orders 9.30pm, 10.30 at weekends.

The menu focuses on local, seasonal produce with a choice of six dishes for each course.

Highlights include homemade venison sausages and Ramsay-inspired halibut with chorizo, peppers and capers.
