Are you a cook?

If I’m outside, the sun is shining, there’s a barbecue and a glass of wine, then yes!

Any cooking tips?

Always allow a joint to ‘rest’ after roasting.

What’s your favourite dish?

Rosemary’s goulash with Delia’s braised red cabbage (it was also our daughter’s favourite) - wonderful memories of long Sunday lunches, all laughing around the table.

And a drink to go with it?

A robust Burgundy every time.

Favourite restaurant in the Sheffield/Peak area?

I enjoy the Old Vicarage for high days and celebrations but the Peacock at Cutthorpe is my current favourite for its consistency.

And pub?

I’m really pleased with the real ale revival so I like the Travellers’ Rest at Apperknowle - great ales well kept.

What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?

At a pub outside Abersoch: terrible service, awful food, and a 30-strong hen party. Nightmare!

And best?

Le Moulin de L’Abbaye at Brantome in the Dordogne - fantastic meal, wonderful setting, memorable food.

Favourite TV cook?

Keith Floyd for his joie de vivre and introducing me to France.

What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat?

Getting better but still lagging behind the likes of Leeds and Manchester – we always seem to playing catch-up.
