Martin Brown is a partner at DJB Recycling. He lives in Norfolk Park, Sheffield, with his fiancée Sharon and their miniature Jack Russells Jud and Millie.
Are you a cook?
Yes, when I have the time. My fiancée says I’m a good cook but I think that may be just a ploy to get me to do the cooking!
Any cooking tips?
Don’t burn it! And use a good extra virgin oil – but for hot frying use sunflower oil.
What’s your favourite dish?
Calzone. I just love the texture of the dough, provided it is made correctly.
And a drink to go with it?
Just a soft drink for me, or at best an IPA beer.
Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area?
Ponti’s Italian Kitchen at Fox Valley – I was lucky enough to be a taster recently before they officially opened.
The Ball at Crookes – they have such a great selection of beers, some of them locally brewed.
What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?
At a diner in Sheffield I asked for a burger, salad and chips and the woman who was serving put the burger under her arm to start defrosting before she cooked it! No, I didn’t eat it...
And the best?
Rack of lamb ribs cooked in a mint sauce at the Bridge Inn, Ladybower.
Your favourite TV cook?
Marco Pierre White because of his attitude.
What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat out?
I think it’s great. There’s a varied selection of different restaurants from diverse cultures. Something for everyone.
