Are you a cook?’

Yes, it’s one of the few creative things I do.

Any cooking tips?

Check the ingredients before you start – nothing worse than finding you’ve run out half way through.

What’s your favourite dish?

Charcoal-grilled sardines with boiled potatoes in olive oil and a crisp green salad. It brings back memories of living in Portugal as a child.

And a drink to go with it?

A glass of Portuguese vinho verde, of course.

Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area?

Living close to London Road, I’m spoilt for choice. Current favourites are East West Taste and Urban Choola.

And pub?

The Grouse on the road to Frogatt Edge: comfortable, welcoming to walkers and serves really good food.

What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?

Working in Sudan, ‘breakfast’ arrived still live in the back of a pick-up – a whole goat. I had to wait while it was slaughtered and cooked.

And the best?

My husband’s Moroccan chicken dish.

Your favourite TV cook?

I prefer to read cook books – favourites are Claudia Roden or Sam and Sam Clark.

What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat out?

Getting better all the time – it seems transformed since I arrived in the ’80s. Though we’re still missing a good Middle Eastern restaurant.
