Four shot in Sheffield as tension explodes into violence - VIDEO
ONE man was killed and three others injured in a drive-by shooting in a Sheffield suburb last night after weeks of mounting tension exploded into violence.
The victim, who has not yet been named by police, was shot dead on Brunswick Street, Broomhall, shortly after 6.30pm.
Residents today told The Star they heard between five and nine shots.
When officers arrived at the scene they discovered one man slumped on the ground. He was declared dead at the scene.
The three injured men were taken to the Northern General by ambulance and were still in hospital this morning. One is seriously injured and the other two have minor injuries.
Armed police were this morning at Brunswick Street and surrounding roads, which were still sealed off.
Police stood guard outside one house while officers flooded nearby streets looking for witnesses and trying to restore calm. Forensic experts in white suits were combing the scene for clues.
Residents say the murder comes after weeks of mounting tension between gangs in the area.

One 20-year-old Broomhall woman said: "Gangs of youths are always clashing - it's to do with drugs. We're terrified to go out."
Residents told The Star said they feel the police, the council and other agencies have done nothing to tackle the community tension.
One man said: "There have been a couple of meetings where police and the council have promised us everything but delivered nothing. It is the kind of area where I walk down the middle of the road rather than the pavement fearing that somebody's going to jump out on me.
"There's plenty of police here during the day but not when the problems happen at night."

One young man said: "I would see gangs of Somalis and Jamaicans arguing all the time. I don't know if they are tooled up, but it is intimidating. We never see the police at night when you want them."
Coun Jillian Creasy, who represents Central Ward which covers Broomhall, said: "People are just shocked. There has been mounting tension in Broomhall with incidents of violence in the last few weeks.
"It's highly likely it's some drug turf war but we don't know who between."
Sheffield Central MP Richard Caborn said: "I know there have been tensions. Police and community workers have been down there working to try to resolve things."
But Chief Superintendent Paul Broadbent said: "I can assure you that we have done an enormous amount in Broomhall, proportionately more than almost anywhere else in the city, to address the concerns of local residents.
"An awful lot has been done and continues to be done. We do have regular meetings with all sections of the community. I have one scheduled today and there was one last night. Over the last two years there have been a number of meetings."
