A friendly Lurcher housed at RSPCA Sheffield’s Animal Centre in Stadium Way is looking for a new home.

Brindle coloured Jack, who is just over one-year-old, came into the centre on May 16 and is said to possibly be good with patient, confident dogs, but not cats.

Jack came into the centre along with his siblings as part of an ongoing cruelty investigation when they were just pups. RSPCA handlers say this has sadly meant that he has spent much of his life so far in a kennel environment and this has obviously had an impact on his socialisation skills.

A spokesman for the centre said: “Jack is a nervous lad and although he is improving with us day by day, it takes him a good while to adjust to new situations and he needs lots of support.

“Change is quite scary for dogs like Jack who haven`t been used to a home environment and so they may find the transition into a home a little more challenging. We are looking for experienced owners for Jack who can offer him the support and training he needs, to teach him good manners and help him grow in confidence.”

Jack is said to be a joy to be around. He loves to chase toys and hang around with his favourite people. He adores other dogs but tends to greet them with gusto, so RSPCA staff have been working on teaching him how to greet dogs politely so as not to cause offence.

He may be suitable to live with another dog, but they will have to be very calm and tolerant and hopefully will be able to teach Jack a thing or two about doggy etiquette. For more call in at 2 Stadium Way, Sheffield S9 3HN, or call the centre during the day on 0114 289 8050.
