Health care action
A SHEFFIELD mental health chief said today an action plan had been put in place to improve mental health care on hospital wards, after city services were rated among the worst in the country.
Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, which manages mental health services was rated as 'weak' by the NHS watchdog the Health Care Commission, for failing to provide personalised services and involve patients in planning their care.
The Trust was rated 'fair' for ensuring patients do not stay in hospital longer than necessary and making sure patients, staff and visitors are safe.
And it had a 'good' rating for cutting the level of violence on mental health wards.
Kevan Taylor, chief executive of the trust, said since the review 12 months ago plans to improve care had been implemented.
"During the past year the trust has worked hard to implement a number of key actions, which include the appointment of activity co-ordinators and the introduction of improved procedures on health promotion and physical health needs.
"This action plan will continue to improve acute mental health in-patient services within the trust."
