Heaven 17 join Dave Kilner tribute night

SHEFFIELD synthpop band Heaven 17 have announced they will be joining the line-up for next month's tribute concert in memory of former radio presenter Dave Kilner.

Frontman Glenn Gregory and keyboard player Martyn Ware will perform at 'Dave Kilner - A Night to Remember' at Sheffield City Hall on April 30.

The event has been organised by Dave's widow Shirley and his two daughters Rebecca and Nicola, to mark the launch of a charity to help local disadvantaged children.

Heaven 17 performed at the Magna centre last weekend, playing their debut album, Penthouse and Pavement, on its 30th anniversary.

Also confirmed for the City Hall concert so far are Joe Elliot and Rick Savage from Def Leppard, singers Tony Christie and John Parr and impressionist/comedian Jon Culshaw.

Shirley said: "We are delighted that so many of Dave's old pals from the world of entertainment want to take part and help his charity work and name to live on."

Dave, who died aged 48, was as a DJ with Radio Hallam, Hallam FM, Magic AM and Peak FM and became fundraising manager for the Help a Hallam Child charity.

Heaven 17 singer Glenn said: "Dave was a good friend and we were saddened to hear about his death. We are proud to be taking part in this amazing concert, to raise money for local children in his name."

Keyboard player and songwriter producer Martyn added: "I used to be on the phone with Dave for hours. He was a long-time supporter of ours and we want to give something back."

Jon Culshaw is renowned for work with Radio 1's Chris Moyles, Dead Ringers and Spitting Image, where he came to fame with more than 40 voice impressions of personalities.

He has launched a comedy sketch show with Debra Stephenson, The Impression Show, which is due to be released on DVD.

He said: "Dave was a warm, bright, kind, funny man and a good friend. And a broadcasting legend, let's not forget that. It is an honour to be part of a show that pays such a fitting tribute to him."

Tickets 25 and 30 from the Sheffield City hall box office on 0114 2789 789 or book on line at www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk
