Just a year after reopening under new management, the Beauchief is set for another make-over – this time in the style of award-winning Sheffield chef Jack Baker.
Jack takes over the kitchen at the former Abbeydale Station Hotel next week and will relaunch the restaurant on May 1 as Jack Baker’s Great Northern Brasserie.
Meanwhile, the basement Cellar Door pub will become known simply as Jack’s Bar.
The Beauchief was taken over by Sheffield’s BrewKitchen group last April. Director Richard Smith said: “It’s taken us a year to figure out the place, honour inherited bookings and decide what to do in the long run.
“Jack has worked with us for a decade at most of our restaurants and shown amazing passion and dedication. He’s a fantastic chef and we’ve given him the chance to name the business after himself – which will doubtless suit his outgoing character! We think this is what the place needs.”
Over the last two years Jack has transformed Relish diner in Ecclesall Road – rebranded when it failed to thrive as Spice Market Café. Now he is hoping to work similar magic at the Beauchief, which has failed to pull in the crowds despite winning Eat Sheffield’s ‘best fine dining’ award.
Jack is promising casual dining and drinking, with a family carvery: “It’ll offer great quality and value and get the Beauchief buzzing.”
