John and Gregg to judge Master Sheff
Celebrity Masterchef Channels: BBC One Picture shows: (L-R) Gregg Wallace, John Torode Unique Ref. Number: 501664
Masterchef stars John Torode and Gregg Wallace will get a taste of Sheffield’s culinary talent later this month when they judge a competition to find Meadowhall’s most promising young chef.
The duo will help to celebrate the launch of the shopping centre’s £7m new Oasis Dining Quarter by presiding over a Master Sheff competition.
Trainee chefs from Meadowhall restaurants will compete for the title by creating an innovative new dish drawing on the best of their restaurant’s culinary theme.
The competition will culminate in a finale at the shopping centre on Wednesday, February 15.
The winning dish will be the one considered by the celebrity judges to have the best taste and the most appeal for the target market.
Its creator will win a trophy as well as the Master Sheff title and their dish should be available for customers to try as it goes on the menu.
Meadowhall centre director Darren Pearce said: “The launch of our new Oasis Dining Quarter has seen us welcome a host of top restaurants.
“This means we have some great up-and-coming chefs working at Meadowhall, so we thought what better way to celebrate than to invite John and Gregg down to judge our very own Master Sheff.
“I can’t wait to see what the trainee chefs come up with and I’ll definitely be there on the day to have a taste.”
After 20 years of basking in the sun of its Marbella-themed food court, Meadowhall Shopping Centre has unveiled its new-look Oasis Dining Quarter, featuring a restaurant mezzanine and gourmet outlets including a range of international cuisines.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 08:29 AMIt is a pity with all the great local food in Sheffield Meadowhall has to fill its food area with food chain shops and nothing that gives the area something special using local or regional food
