Ladies turn on the style at owlerton – and help raise a charity record

THERE was a stylish turnout on Tuesday for the latest Ladies' Day at Owlerton Stadium – and what looks like a record amount of money raised for St Luke's Hospice.

Organisers said the ninth event – billed as greyhound racing's answer to Royal Ascot – was the most successful.

The Panorama Room, restaurant and corporate boxes were a sell-out, with audiences dancing until after midnight in the Sportsman Tavern.

John Gilburn, managing director of Owlerton Stadium, said: "The ladies looked absolutely stunning and we look on target to reach our fundraising target which, in the present economic climate is fantastic."

The winner of the hat competition was Dawn Thompson, of Wadsley Lane
