Steelworks is talent melting pot
TAKE That, Bryan Adams, Boyzone, The Spice Girls, Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion all have Eliot Kennedy to thank for some of their biggest hits.
His song-writing and producing has sold millions of records around the globe – the soundtrack to the lives of pop fans for the past 21 years, adding to Sheffield’s world- renowned music legacy.
Eliot, who has turned down global offers to move out of the city he loves, has instead expanded his Steelworks studio to include the adjoining former Axis Studio, which he’s renamed The Foundry. He’s launched a One Song Foundation charity which has helped cancer research, the homeless and children’s organisations.
Now he’s introducing EKSA, Eliot Kennedy’s Steelworks Academy, based at the studio to turn out even more pop stars.
He’s certainly qualified for the job.
With best pal Gary Barlow he co-wrote Take That chart-topper Everything Changes and last year they went around the world to record and co-produce the Queen’s official Diamond Jubilee song, Sing.
Eliot won an Ivor Novello Award for Boyzone smash Picture Of You and picked up a Grammy for Never Gonna Break My Faith, written and produced for Aretha Franklin and Mary J Blige, for the film Bobby. His other regular song-writing partner is rock superstar pal Bryan Adams, who he teamed up with Mel C on rock anthem When You’re Gone – which Eliot also co-wrote.
The Wanted, Steps, The Military Wives, Celine Dion, Donny Osmond, Blue, Atomic Kitten, Sclub7 havbe all been touched by the Eliot magic. And his back room staff are amongst the best in the business, including writer and producer James Jayawardena, who started out on keyboards touring with with acts like The Pretenders and The Charlatans. As One half of BearBone Productions, he has co-written and produced numerous records with Eliot.
James “Slim” Campbell is chief recording and mix engineer, who joined the Steelworks team in January 2010 after leaving University. He has worked on and mixed records for clients such as Steps, Andy Abraham, The Wanted and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Philippa Hanna, who is making a reputation for herself as a singer-songwriter – she was special guest on the Lionel Richie tour - provides vocal coaching and mentoring. She also co-writes extensively with producer Jayawardena and they are one of the most sought-after writing partnerships .
