5 Irish Traditional Music Society, Irish music classes in tin whistle, concertina (Anglo), spoken Irish, singing, etc, city centre venue, Wednesdays, 6pm-7.30pm, new members (adults and accompanied children) welcomed (contact Diz on 2491969 for current details including venue).

6 Simon Lole, organ, the former master of the music at Sheffield (1994-97) and Salisbury (1997-2005) cathedrals now pursuing a freelance career gives a recital organised by Sheffield and District Organists' and Choirmasters' Association. Upper Chapel, Norfolk Street, Wednesday, 12.30pm (free, retiring collection).

7 Sequence Dancing, Norton House Country Club, Norton Lane, Wednesday, 9pm (1 for guests/members free).

8 Steel City Striders, running club meets weekly, Graves Tennis Centre, Bochum Way, Norton, Wednesdays, 7pm(2745421 steelcitystriders@hotmail.com).

9 Mark George, eminent barrister who works on both sides of the Atlantic will examine the operation of the death penalty in the United States and give an insight into working with prisoners on death row, Lecture Theatre 4, Sheffield University Arts Tower, Wednesday, 2pm (open to all).

10 Diana Lee Braithwaite, Chris Whiteley, Bob Hall & Hilary Blythe, Treat for blues and jazz fans at the Boardwalk, Snig Hill.
