5 Greentop's Sheffield Youth Circus, learn a great range of circus skills and try everything from unicycling and stilt-walking to juggling and acrobatics, Greentop Circus Centre, St Thomas Building, Holywell Road, near Meadowhall, 5.30pm to 6.45pm for ages eight to 12, 7.15pm to 8.30pm, 13-16+ (3.50 per session, 2448828).
6 Jam night, Rudi's Blues Cafe, Rotherham.
7 Jeongwon Ham, winner of numerous international piano competitions with a wide international career – "astonishing and effortless technique … plays with incredible warmth and great power" – as a pianist, teacher and adjudicator, plays Bach's Chaconne for solo violin in an arrangement by Busoni, Haydn's Sonata No 41, Chaminade's Les Sylvains and Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Op 22 at the Sheffield Cathedral Lunchtime Recital, 1.15pm (free, suggested donation 2).
8 La Traviata, Verdi's opera on the big screen as part the BP Summer Big Screen Programme with stellar New York Metropolitan Opera principals in it live from the Royal Opera House in London: Rene Fleming (Violetta), Joseph Calleja (Alfredo) and Thomas Hampson (Germont). All Saints Square, Rotherham, 7pm (free, refreshments available, or take your own and weather protection just in case).
