Here Come The Girls - Sheffield City Hall - Review

THE divas are in town and make no mistake!

Glitter, glamour and good times were the name of the game as three singing legends joined forces in a new musical experience that promised big hair, big heels and big voices - and delivered on all counts.

Pop icon Lulu, US singing sensation Anastacia and the legendary Chaka Khan were all under one roof and raising it right up in a new show that had us dancing in the aisles.

"There are no rules tonight Sheffield," Anastacia grinned at the start. "You can sit, you can stand, you can dance, you can sing – we want you to have a good time!"

The stars kicked off a two-hour set with I'm Every Woman, the crowd on their feet from the beginning, followed by a Motown medley which included Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Stop In The Name Of Love and Dancing In The Street, all interjected with plenty of giggling and belting ad-libs.

The concert theme was having fun with your girlfriends and our hosts led by example, dancing around the stage like a group of friends in a nightclub around their handbags.

"We may be girly girls, but we like to sing mens songs too," said Anastacia as the trio launched into Soul Man.

As well as loads of golden oldies sprinkled with the trio's magic came a modern twist with covers of songs such as Lady Gaga's Just Dance and Beyonce's Single Ladies. Lulu's Shout was greeted with deafening applause, as was Anastacia's Outta Love before a barrage of big show stopping numbers, Enough Is Enough, Disco Inferno and I Will Survive, most accompanied by dancers who slinked and bounced around the two-storey stage in perfect rhythm.

An incredible version of Relight My Fire closed a night where three incredible divas worked the stage from the second they stepped onto it. Each shone in their own right; no egos, not a competition – just a party.
