Primary pupils get back on the time travel trail
YOUNGSTERS at Arbourthorne Community Primary School are going time travelling again with their production for the Sheffield Children's Festival called Wardrobe of Time 2: The Curse of Antony and Cleopatra.
It is a kind of sequel to their show last year and has again been written by Y6 teacher Steve Eddison, who explains: "We try to have a tradition with the end-of-year production that ties in to several areas of the curriculum.
"It's a kind of spoof of the Elizabethan period and the time travelling and it's also a kind of reduced Shakespeare.
Last year it was King Lear. This time it's Antony and Cleopatra and three children go into the wardrobe and travel back to Egyptian times but get caught up with a mummy who ends up returning with them back to the present day."
It seems to pack quite a lot into the play, being performed by around 70 pupils, because the modern day scenario also involves a plot by the head to get rid of the drama teacher, mass poisoning of the cast of a school production of Antony and Cleopatra and a romance between members of staff.
All will be revealed at the Montgomery Theatre on Tuesday and there will also be a preview on Thursday morning in the 24-Hour Shakespeare marathon in the city centre.
