Mongolia or bust in this old van…

TWO Sheffield lads are to make the trip of a lifetime... in a battered old van that looks like it might not get to the bottom of the street.

Sheffield University politics students Angus Rose and Tim Watkin are set to drive 10,000 miles to Mongolia in a Vauxhall Combo Merit.

But this is no madcap student jaunt – the lads are doing it in a very good cause.

Angus and Steve, both 21, and living in Crookes, are taking part in the Mongolia Charity Rally 2009 in aid of the Save The Children and Marie Curie Cancer Care charities.

And they claim the van is in very good condition – which is just as well since they aim to reach Ulan Bator, then donate their trusty vehicle to the Children's Development and Protection Fund in Mongolia.

In addition to the donation of the van Angus and Tim have also set themselves a fundraising target for the trip of 1,000 for each charity.

Their four-week journey will take them through 10 countries, covering around 10,000 miles before reaching their final destination.

Starting off in Sheffield, they'll cross the English Channel to reach France, then travel on to Belgium and through Germany before heading to Prague, Kiev, Volgograd, Almaty in Kazakhstan and Barnaul in Russia before entering Mongolia and reaching Ulan Bator.

Angus said: "We're both very excited about the prospect of setting off to Mongolia in the summer.

"We're hoping to raise loads of money for the great charities we are supporting, but we will need all the help we can get."
