NEWS IN BRIEF: MP's petition over plans to lift fox-hunting ban
SHEFFIELD MP Angela Smith is calling on people across South Yorkshire to sign a petition against Conservative plans to overturn the fox-hunting ban.
The politician, who represents Hillsborough, said: "Five years ago this week, the ban on hunting with hounds became law. I find it unbelievable the Conservatives have pledged to make getting rid of the fox-hunting ban a priority if they were to win the next election.
"With all the challenges the world is currently facing, this just doesn't make sense."

New fashion in store
FASHION label Firetrap opens its first South Yorkshire store at Meadowhall this weekend.
The Meadowhall shop will hold the full range of men's and women's collections as well as denim, accessories, footwear and watches for the first time all under one roof.
Nick Starsmore, retail director at Firetrap, said: "Sheffield is a very exciting place to be at the minute and is definitely making a name for itself as an up-and-coming city on a national stage. As the fourth biggest city outside of London we thought it was about time we brought the Firetrap attitude to a city which matches our own rebellious, rock 'n' roll spirit."
WORKERS at Sheffield's adult hospitals are taking part in a cycle to work scheme.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, which runs the Royal Hallamshire, Northern General, Weston Park, Charles Clifford and Jessop Wing hospitals, is taking part in a national scheme where staff can buy bikes more cheaply thanks to a tax break.
Sir Andrew Cash, chief executive of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Signing up to this new scheme is part of our ongoing commitment to encourage more sustainable methods of transport.''
