Owls manager on the slide in aid of hospital

SHEFFIELD Wednesday manager Alan Irvine will be flying across the pitch at Hillsborough next month…

Hurtling from the back of the Kop and across the pitch to the Leppings Lane end, he'll be one of the participants in a zip slide in aid of The Children's Hospital Charity on Sunday, April 25.

He was inspired to get involved after meeting patients and staff at the hospital last month.

Alan said: "I was really impressed when I visited the hospital and think it is a fantastic cause.

"I'm keen to do anything I can to raise money for the hospital and having done a zip slide before in the Lake District I know how much fun it is.

"I hope Wednesday fans will get involved and have a go, too. It's a real thrill, a really worthy cause, and for many fans it would be a unique opportunity to fly over and land on the pitch."

The challenge will take place between 9am and 4.30pm.

Simon Athey, senior fundraiser at The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "We hope his pledge of support will encourage other Owls fans to sign up, or support Alan through his just giving site."

Paricipants can register online at www.tchcharity.org.uk or call the charity office on 2717203. There is a 25 registration fee and then the charity asks that each person raises a minimum of 75 in sponsorship.

Participants must be over the age of 18.

The partnership between Wednesday and the Children's Hospital has so far raised more than 80,000.
