Passing on the health benefits of yoga
STAFF at a Sheffield children's centre limbered up for a yoga session which taught them moves they can then pass on to children and families in the area.
The Yoga 4 Families social enterprise visited Burngreave Children's Centre in Spital Street to deliver a programme which introduced the basics of the exercise.
The idea is that staff can then teach yoga to people who use the centre, promoting its health benefits to a wider group.
The programme is one of five run by the enterprise supporting the introduction and integration of yoga to nurseries, schools, families, adults and older people with the aim of getting them more active.
Health benefits include boosting the immune system, enhancing lung capacity and balancing energy levels, while work on posture develops strength, balance, poise and co-ordination.
Relaxation techniques also create greater clarity and memory retention.
