Sharrow stages its 16th annual Multicultural Festival in Mount Pleasant Park on Saturday.
The festival, starting at noon, is a celebration of the people of Sharrow with a big emphasis on children. For the under 5s there is a Sure Start tent, for the older ones there are free workshops in dance and percussion, five-a-side football, bouncy castles and inflatable slides.
There are two performance stages. Comedy, drama, poetry, singers and young Roma dancers will be on the Community Stage and the Music Stage promises seven hours of sounds including two young bands (Rust and The Verals), hip hop crew Mega Squad, funksters the Soulcrates, Truly Apparent singing joyous reggae hits, Barnsley jump up crew The Mighty Vipers and headliners Soukous Revelation from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Meanwhile the sports pitch is transformed into a riot of colour with spraycan artists coming from over the country to transform the walls in the Paint Jam, while the Chill Foo sound system will keep the atmosphere bubbling along and young break dancers show off their steps and encourage others to have a go.
The rest of the park is filled with stalls offering international food from eight different cultures, a host of stalls selling crafts, bric-a-brac and giving out information about charities and other
