Two of the biggest names on Sheffield’s bar scene are joining forces to launch a new boutique wine and craft beer shop in Sharrowvale Road.
Barry Starmore is a former Savoy Group sommelier who ran Oddbins’ Sheffield operation for 18 years and also helped to relaunch the Wig & Pen in 2004.
Jefferson Boss is a former Oddbins manager, also well known from ten years at Record Collector in Broomhill. He went on to run the Shakespeare in Gibraltar Street and lately the Blake Hotel in Upperthorpe, creating one of South Yorkshire’s biggest whisky collections.
Together they are poised to launch Starmore Boss: work is under way to fit out the shop and it is due to open within weeks.
“We’ve both talked about it for years… between us we have specialist experience of wine and spirits and we’ll be able to teach people about the history and provenance of all these drinks,” says Jeff.
The shop will focus on specially selected stock from outstanding producers and small growers, bottling its own-label whisky. It will also host tasting events and master classes.
