Sheffield Moor revamp approved
News: Sheffield Telegraph online 24-hours a day.
THE all-clear was given this week for reshaping of another part of The Moor in Sheffield city centre, including the addition of a multi-screen cinema.
Councillors welcomed the prospect of a new block below Debenhams department store, stretching to Charter Row, that is also designed to include shops, cafes, takeaways and commercial units.
One of the proposed features is a pedestrian route between the precinct and Charter Square, with an escalator and glass lift to the surrounding units.
Behind the project is Scottish Widows Investment Property Trust, which has already seen construction start on the markets hall and new shops on the opposite side of the precinct, nearer Moorfoot.
The company has suggested that the cinema could have 11 screens.
Coun David Baker said: “The area is rundown and these changes will make a huge difference. It is the best news I have heard for a long time.”
