Silicon valley firm join up with Owls and hospital

BOTH Sheffield Wednesday and the Children's Hospital have an important new partner.

Silicon Valley software company WANdisco was announced yesterday as the club's first Platinum Partner, with a "top tier sponsorship package".

The firm will also work closely with the Children's Hospital and its charity, helping to raise funds and awareness of campaigns.

David Richards, chief executive officer of WANdisco, said: "WANdisco probably would not have partnered with a football club in a traditional sponsorship deal but the partnership with the Children's Hospital illustrates how much value the club attaches to its community."

To start the ball rolling, WANdisco is launching a Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for The Children's Hospital Charity on the weekend of September 5. Local businesses are being invited to join the company and a team from Sheffield Wednesday in scaling the three highest peaks in Yorkshire. Sheffield City Council and redevelolpment agency Creative Sheffield have already signed up.

Originally based in San Ramon, California, WANdisco established a base in Sheffield in 2008.
