Sporting golden oldies remain in focus
THIS photo of OAPS taking part in Sheffield's Care Home Olympics is being featured in a new exhibition to celebrate Older People's Day.
The photograph, showing three of the 120 'Olympians' who participated in the event earlier this year, has been included in the 'Age, Snapped' exhibition in London
The Car Home Olympics was organised jointly by the Support to Care Homes Team, part of the Sheffield Primary Care Trust, and the council's Activity Sheffield.
It aimed to challenge stereotypes surrounding old age and later life.
Project leader Martin Bradshaw said: "This was the first event that we have organised, and it was extremely successful.
"The average age of the residents taking part was 85, and the oldest competitor was 99.
"Events included golf, bowls, skittles, target throwing, dominos and a sports quiz."
The 'Age, Snapped' photography exhibition is being held at the LCC Galleries in central London until Saturday.
