Squeamish actor fights fear for play
High Storrs student Eddie-Joe Robsinson is playing the main character in their school production of 'Sweeny Todd - School Edition' but has a fear of blood
A YOUNG actor with a deep-seated fear of blood is getting ready for a challenging role - playing the lead in gorey musical Sweeney Todd.
Eddie-Joe Robinson, a student at High Storrs School and member of the National Youth Theatre, has vowed to rid himself of his fear - known as hemophobia - before the curtains open at The Crucible in July.
Eddie-Joe, aged 18, a talented actor, singer and dancer, said he is even considering treatment to help get used to the sight of blood.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do about my fear of blood and gore,” said the teenager, deputy head boy at High Storrs.
“I’m thinking I’ll probably need to see someone about it. But if ever there was a reason to overcome my phobia then the chance to be on The Crucible stage is definitely it.”
Luckily deputy head girl Esme Moxley, who is playing pie shop owner Mrs Lovett, is less squeamish about the huge quantities of fake blood required for the production.
Tickets for Sweeney Todd, on July 5 and 6, will go on sale nearer the time.
