Striking images from Martin's USA/Mexico roadtrip

SHEFFIELD artist and photographer Martin F Bedford is exhibiting a selection of striking images at Cafe Euro, John Street (off Bramall Lane).

Martin recently published a book of his iconic posters from his time as resident artist at Sheffield's Leadmill and also designed the artwork for music documentary The Beat Is The Law.

Martin said: "The image I used in the poster is a piece of political graffiti at San Bartolo Coyotepec in southern Mexico about the plight of the peasants. It has been stencilled on to a wall and the quality is quite incredible.

"I was away for about 10 weeks last year to make the trip, starting out in Chicago, travelling through the mid-West and on to San Francisco, where I worked with some of the world's best poster artists. Then we spent about three weeks in Mexico."

His exhibition at Cafe Euro is USA/Mexico: Random Images From a Road Trip. It features a small selection of the images which will go on show as part of a larger exhibition later in the year.

Martin hopes to tie it in with the official launch of his book, Up Against The Wall, Leadmill Posters 1980-1992, some time in mid-August.

The exhibiting at Cafe Euro runs until July 12.
