4.Fatal Encounter, Nicholas Ball, Anita Harris and Neil Stacy in a Francis Durbridge thriller, Buxton Opera House, Wednesday-Saturday, 7.30pm, plus matinees Thursday and Saturday, 2.30pm (12-16).
5.Portland Works Open Workshop, with knife maker Stuart Mitchell and Wigfull Tools, Portland Works, Randall Street, Wednesday, noon to 2pm (free, booking essential, 2734427).

7.German Market, themed Christmas market with wooden cabin-style stalls atmospherically lit and a performance area for musical events such as carol singing and oompah bands, Peace Gardens, from Thursday, November 19, then daily, Sundays to Wednesdays, 11am to 8pm, and Thursdays to Saturdays, 11am to 9pm until lunchtime on Christmas Eve.
8.Soldier of Peace, screening of documentary narrated by Michael Douglas and telling the stories of grassroots activists from 14 countries around the world: who are working towards peace interspersed with contibutions by luminaries such as Bob Geldof, Richard Branson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Gareth Evans , Paul Rogers, James Galbraith, and Prince Hassan of Jordan, Hans Blix, Sheffield Quaker Meeting House, St James Street, Wednesday, 6.30pm for light, free film show, 7pm followed by discussion of issues raised by the film.
9.Can-u-Jam, live music session, all equipment provided, any style welcome, Springvale, Commonside, Walkley, Wednesdays, 8pm-11pm.
