Sheffield’s latest restaurant, Peppercorn, opened on Friday following a whirwind turnaround by new owners, chef Charlie Curran and his partner Kelly Ware (pictured).

Launch night guests at the restaurant, formerly Moran’s, on Abbeydale Road South, were invited to “bring a peppermill to kick start our collection!”

Charlie was Brian Turner’s head chef before running local restaurants including the Samuel Fox and The Beauchief. He also helped to popularise Henderson’s Relish… check out Shef’s #cookbook video at: Shef’s #cookbook

Food for thought

Food blogger and cook Ros Arksey has discovered a taste for words. Ros, aka @Nibbly_Pig, stumbled across a new skill when her grandma was taken ill, prompting her to write a short story… and then went on to develop a way with poetry. She published her first book, Head in the Clouds, in June, in aid of St Luke’s Hospice. Now she has released a second volume, Hungry for Words: a collection of food-related poems, available from Amazon priced £2.

Star-studded line up

Some of the area’s top chefs will be showing off the tricks of their trade at Sheffield Food Festival on September 20 - 22. Among those demonstrating in the Fargate Festival Kitchen are Rupert Rowley, head chef of Michelin-starred Fischer’s, and James Duckett, chef patron of the Samuel Fox Country Inn, Bradwell. Great British Bake Off finalist James Morton will also be appearing. Full programme: www.sheffieldfoodfestival.org
