Up to 65,000 expected at Bakewell Show

UP TO 65,000 visitors are expected to head for the hills next week as the Peak District's biggest country show gets under way.

Bakewell Show – affectionately known as the Little Royal – takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, August 6 and 7. For the first time in the event's 189-year history, there will also be classes on Tuesday afternoon, with Horse of the Year Show qualifiers taking place over three days.

New this year is the Heavy Horse Village, where visitors can meet some of the show's biggest stars and watch them being prepared.

Also new is the Farming, Food and Fun area, which brings together exhibits from the Young Farmers and sheep shearing to rare breeds and cheese competitions. The food hall, with its ever-increasing selection of specialist stands, will move to a new home in the Agricultural Centre.

All the traditional attractions will be there: from champion livestock and prizewinning produce to the craft marquee, fairground and centre ring entertainment from Titan the eight-foot robot and the Solent Eagles children's motorcycle display team.
