Have you been bitten by the baking bug? Are your sponges the lightest, your jams the sweetest in town? Then Seven Hills WI has just the challenge for you…

The county’s biggest WI group is staging a Best in Show baking competition as part of its activities for next month’s Sheffield Food Festival, September 20-22.

Entries are invited in three classes: for victoria sponge, puddings and jarred goods – which can be anything from jam and curd to relish or pickles.

Each entry costs £1 and will be donated to PACT, which supports children with tumours and leukaemia. For details and entry forms see Seven Hills WI.

Results will be announced by Great British Bake Off 2012 finalist James Morton, who is demonstrating in the Festival Kitchen in Fargate on both Saturday and Sunday.

Seven Hills is also running a homemade cake stall in the Winter Garden. President Lindsay Garfitt said: “This will be our third year in the Festival and we’re really looking forward to getting our aprons on and baking again! We made over £700 for charity last year and hope to raise even more this year.”
