SINCE their 2006 release on Sub Pop Cansei de Ser Sexy (Portugese for 'tired of being sexy'), Sãu Paulo's CSS have had an evangelical two years – spreading their synth-led pop across Europe through their latest album, Donkey.
Donkey is artistically crude, edgy and catchy. Opening track Jager Yoga is instantly punchy – a page-turner of a track. Musically it is gaudy with dirty synths, complementing aggressive female vocals.
The single track, Left Behind, is a driving, riffy number with stretched vocals and layers of synthesised tracks.
Left Behind is less edgy and less punchy than Jager Yoga and Move – a jigsaw of bleeps and broken vocals.
Move is an arty collage of eighties-sounding singing and splodgy synths – a pure, concentrated dose of what CSS is about.
