Teddy Thompson has performed in Sheffield a few times, but this was by far his most confident and all-round performance.
The voice is strong and full of character, the acoustic guitar work accomplished, the songs are maturing nicely and a neat, self-depracating line in wit is emerging.

His growing reputation as a fine songwriter was exemplified in material from the Separate Ways album and from an album due for release in September.

In addition, his musical breadth was demonstrated by a clutch of classic country songs from his last offering, Upfront & Down Low. For a white man in his thirties, he imbued them a startling authenticity.
On the one song from the album that he wrote himself, harmonies were added by sister Kamila Thompson, who provided the support spot.
She might be still learning her stagecraft, but has plainly inherited the rich vocal capacity of her mum.

And to see and hear them share the spotlight was further powerful evidence that the prodigious talents of Richard and Linda have been passed down the line.
