Eleven organisations have expressed an interest in organising next year’s Sheffield half marathon.

The council invited submissions from charities and other bodies after the local race committee pulled out in the wake of the chaos over the cancellation of last April’s race because water supplies did not arrive.

The council expects to select new organisers next month. “We were impressed by the extremely high standard of the bids we received,” said a spokesperson.

Money is now being distributed to this year’s race charities after an agreement between the race committee and the water suppliers.
