This year Ecclesall Theatre Company is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

They began life at St Gabriel’s Church on Greystones Road in 1938 and called themselves St Gabriel’s Dramatic Society.

Ma’s Bit o’ Brass was their first show and through the Forties the society establish ed themselves as a key part of leisure in Sheffield 11.

Here, from 1952, is the cast of The Happiest Days of Your Life a school farce based on a film which was to be the precursor of the St Trinian’s saga.

St Gabriel’s moved to Ecclesall Parish Hall in 1961 and have been there ever since so changed their name to Ecclesall Theatre Company in 1995.

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest on November 19-23 will be the first of three 75th anniversary productions.
