More than 6,000 runners - from elite athletes to those looking for a bit of fun and some charity cash - took part in the last Sheffield half marathon to start and finish at Don Valley Stadium.

Top prizes went to Ben Fish, from Blackburn, with a time of 66:51, and Julie Briscoe, from Wakefield, with 76:17.

As well as the half marathon, there was traditional 3km fun run, which attracted the oldest participant, 88-year-old Eric Cooper, from Crookes, who stepped out with a helper to raise money for Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind.

Eric, who wore his Sherwood Foresters regimental uniform, said: “I want to raise money for the society because they’ve put an appeal out for a mobile library. I also wanted to do it this year because it’s the last time at Don Valley.”

Organiser of the event have yet to decide details for next year.
