South Yorkshire Community Foundation has been recognised by the Government for helping flood victims.
Former Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Coun Jackie Drayton, joined staff from the foundation at 11 Downing Street for an event organised to honour those in the voluntary sector who have provided flood support over the last 12 months.
The foundation was presented with a certificate for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by flood recovery minister John Healey.
Foundation chief executive Pauline Grice said: "This helps us to realise just how much we have achieved in a relatively short time and how much we have been able to help and support the efforts of the statutory bodies during the recovery process."
The foundation also took representatives of Bentley Association for Supportive Help and Sheffield Sea Cadets, one of the charity's fund managers Rachel Mellalieu and volunteer Chris Grice.
The event was also attended by many important political figures such as Alistair Darling MP and his wife, John Healey MP and Rosie Winterton MP.
Trustee of the foundation Jackie Drayton said: "We have a reputation for delivering and being a solid grassroots community organisation that delivers on the agenda it sets. We make a difference in people's lives."
The foundation has raised over £1.6 million and distributed £1.2m with further funds about to be allocated.
